Performance Psychology & Integrated Mental Work

Athletic performance isn’t just physical — it is psychological. For many individuals and families engaged in competitive or performance-oriented environments, the mental and emotional dimensions of performance become centrally important. When physical preparation is strong but internal obstacles remain — self-doubt, attentional disruption, pressure, or identity questions — a deeper mode of psychological work becomes necessary.

My approach to performance psychology is rooted in clinical depth, intentional inquiry, and real-world application. This work is not about quick drills or motivational platitudes. It is about understanding the internal landscape that underlies performance and shaping it in ways that support greater consistency, confidence, and clarity — on and off the field.

Who This Work Is For

I work with adults and developmentally capable adolescents who:

  • Recognize that performance performance is psychological as well as physical

  • Are serious about growth, insight, and consistency

  • Are motivated to develop deeper self-understanding

  • Want a collaborative and structured approach rather than quick tactics

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Competitive athletes navigating pressure, expectation, or transitions

  • Performers and professionals whose performance matters in high-stakes environments

  • Adolescents balancing athletic goals with developmental, academic, and identity concerns

This work is appropriate for those who want more than a checklist of tricks — those who want to explore what is actually working and what is getting in the way, and then change it in ways that endure.

How I Think About Performance Work

Performance success emerges from the interaction of:

  • attention and regulation

  • identity and motivation

  • pressure and resilience

  • perception and response

Rather than treating these as discrete “skills” to be taught in isolation, I approach performance challenges as psychological patterns that are shaped by internal narratives, emotional organization, history, and habitual thinking. The goal is not simply to perform better in the short term, but to develop mental flexibility, consistency, and confidence that endure across contexts.

Therapy and performance work here are integrated — psychological understanding and performance enhancement are not separate, but deeply interconnected.

What the Process Looks Like

Work begins with a careful, nuanced understanding of your lived experience — not a set of forms or assessments, but a thorough conversation about how you think, feel, and respond under pressure. From there, we collaboratively identify the psychological patterns that influence your performance and chart a thoughtful, individualized path forward.

This typically involves:

  • Clarifying performance priorities and psychological obstacles

  • Exploring internal narratives related to confidence, focus, and identity

  • Strengthening self-awareness under pressure

  • Enhancing regulation of attention and emotional arousal

  • Applying insights in ways that feel meaningful and sustainable

The emphasis is always on understanding + application. You’ll know why we’re doing what we’re doing.

Beyond the Field — Life and Performance Together

Performance psychology is not just about competition day. It is about consistency, integration, and how you carry yourself through preparation, setbacks, transitions, and reflection. Psychological work that supports performance is the same work that supports clarity of identity, balanced drive, and flourishing in life beyond the arena.

In-Person and Telehealth Options

I offer integrated performance psychology work:

  • In-person at the Behavioral Institute of Atlanta in Sandy Springs, Georgia

  • Virtually for clients located in PSYPACT-participating states

This allows consistent, reflective work regardless of where you or your family are located.

Is This a Good Fit?

This work is best suited for individuals and families who value thoughtful, in-depth psychological engagement and who are ready to take an active, reflective role in their development. If you are seeking a structured, collaborative, and clinically grounded approach to performance psychology, I invite you to reach out to discuss next steps.
